{"id":1048,"date":"2012-10-07T06:03:25","date_gmt":"2012-10-07T13:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtw4four.com\/RTW4Four\/?p=1048"},"modified":"2012-10-07T06:03:25","modified_gmt":"2012-10-07T13:03:25","slug":"an-amount-of-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtw4four.com\/RTW4Four\/2012\/10\/07\/an-amount-of-animals\/","title":{"rendered":"An Amount of Animals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The total animal count at Etosha was (approximately) as follows:<\/p>\n<p>881 springbok<br \/>\n379 Burchell\u2019s zebras<br \/>\n132 elephants<br \/>\n84 giraffes<br \/>\n39 ostriches<br \/>\n17 lions (including one cub)<br \/>\n12 black rhinos<br \/>\n5 spotted hyenas<br \/>\n1 leopard<br \/>\n0 cheetahs<\/p>\n<p>Most of these animals were seen at the 20 waterholes (Wolfsnes, Okaukuejo, Chudop, Ngobib, Kalkheuwel, Batia, Springbokfontein, Goas, Nuamses, Moringa, Rietfontein, Charitsaub, Salvadora, Sueda, Aus, Olifantsbad, Gemsbokvlakte, Ombika, Newbrownii, and Okondeka) we visited. Besides the ten species mentioned above, we also saw greater kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, black-backed jackals, black-faced impala, red hartebeest, Damara dik-diks, steenbok, warthogs, and banded mongoose.<\/p>\n<p>We saw many birds besides ostriches, the most common being guineafowl, Gabar goshawks, and francolin. However, we also saw secretarybirds, kori bustards, a Ludwig\u2019s bustard, pale chanting goshawks, cattle egrets, a marabou stork, blacksmith lapwings, doves, double-banded coursers, hornbills, a Verreaux\u2019s eagle owl, an African hoopoe, crows, crimson-breasted shrikes, violet-eared waxbills, and weaver birds.
